Meet Our Family

Bedouin are traditionally nomadic tribes living in the desert. Bedouin (Arabic: بَدْو‎), comes from the Arabic word badawī which translates to ‘desert dwellers’.

Wadi Rum is home to Bedouin of the Zalabieh tribe. Until the recent increase in tourism, they led nomadic lives, relying on their animal herds. This tribe is responsible for developing Wadi Rum as a tourist destination, providing authentic desert experiences. They operate many of the jeep and camel tours, working as guides, trekkers and climbers. The village of Wadi Rum consists of several hundred inhabitants, concrete homes, goat-hair tents, one school for boys and one school for girls, medical centre, a few shops, restaurants and mechanics.

What a great time we had! We did the full day jeep tour and it was totally worth it. We prepared lunch with our great guide Khaled , visited some cool spots and enjoyed the sunset. Back in the camp we had a lovely Bedouin night with traditional food, Definitely the best memory from my trip in Jordan! Great staff and amazing experience! Absolutely recommended!

Met by Khaled at his compound in Rum Village, drove out to meet the tour jeep at a huge dune, Wadi Umm Ishrin, toured various dunes, Um Frouth rock bridge. Khashabah Canyon and Lawrence House, stopping for lunch cooked on an open fire, by our excellent driver, guide and chef, Ahmed. Back to camp, a great tent, very comfortable and beautifully decorated inside, we also had a bathroom. But if you go for the smaller tent, there are communal facilities very nearby. Lots of nice hot tea, to sit and watch the sun go down, an amazing sunset Then dinner traditional chicken dish, baked in a Zarb pit (hole in the ground). Then an after dinner chat with Khaled, he is a very wise and knowledgeable man, listen to what he has to say. Then out to see the stars, unfortunately too much moon, so check the lunar calendar if you're here to see stars! However, Khaled suggested we set an alarm for 2.00 a.m. when the moon has set, which we did, may more stars to see. Breakfast was good an plentiful, then a camel trek back to the village. Amazing landscape, lovely people. Highly recommended.

A typical tent camp, you can find here. It is difficult to mantain these camps well because there is no infrastrcture. But they do their best. The large well heated Dinner-tent lets travellers come together; we had a lot of fun. Khaled is very friendly, contacts you in advance and organizes the amazing one day desert tour. You can really relax here because you are disconnected from the internet (most of the time WiFi does not work)

Amazing place in a beautiful location.Khaled and his team really put in a lot of effort to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. Dinner was perfect. The tents with a small bathroom are very smart designed. They have everything you need.
